Aaron Thomas Roth was born in Chicago, Il. in 1973 and was raised in Los Angeles, CA. and New York City. He attended the School of Visual Arts in New York where he was able to pursue his love of collage and experimentation with new mediums.
Frustrated with the appearance of cutting and pasting found in traditional collage, Roth creates his work by using transfer papers. Cutting up photos he has taken along with found images, he literally melts the bits and pieces onto watercolor paper. He has found that by working this way, he has been able to create a more refined image which appears almost printed or screened.
Roth's work is primarily based on that of a dreamlike idea of displayed figures trapped somewhere between, what he would describe as, heaven and earth…a limbo or purgatory. It is this grey area that he hope evokes an unsettling feeling for the participant…showing just enough of a picture and keeping the rest of the story a mystery.
Aaron's work has appeared in numerous publications and has been exhibited throughout the United States and abroad including the 2014 Dublin Biennial. He currently resides in Tucson, AZ. where he has formed relationships with local galleries as well as the Tucson Museum of Art.
